Scope of work
Solar substation, LV/MV equipment and grid connection
Where a field of modules becomes a power plant the grid operator is willing to energise.

- 01String combining, DC distribution and inverter installation
- 02Transformer station placement, foundations and connection
- 03LV and MV switchgear, protection and auxiliary supplies
- 04Cabling and terminations up to the agreed point of connection
- 05Protection settings, records and grid operator witness testing support
Built to the single line diagram, not around it
Solar substation components — inverters, MV transformers, ring main units, protection relays and auxiliary supplies — only behave as designed if the installed plant matches the solar power grid connection diagram exactly. We work from the approved SLD and protection schedule, mark up any deviation as it happens and get it signed off rather than discovered at witness testing.
Substation cost is dominated by decisions made before anyone reaches site: transformer rating, MV topology and the distance to the point of connection. We flag the buildability consequences of those choices during the estimate, which is usually when they can still be changed.
One interface to the grid operator
The connection point is where multi-contractor projects usually stall — each party holds part of the evidence and none of them owns the schedule. We take the electrical package through to the agreed interface with one set of records: protection settings, torque and termination logs, earth resistance measurements and functional test protocols.
Where local regulations require nationally certified personnel or documentation in the local language, that is arranged as part of mobilisation rather than negotiated after the fact.
Frequently asked questions
01What drives solar substation cost most on a utility-scale project?+
Transformer rating and MV topology first, then the distance and route to the point of connection. Civil works and export cable length frequently cost more than the switchgear itself, which is why we price the substation against the actual route rather than a per-MW rule of thumb.
02Do you work from our design or produce the solar substation design?+
We build to the client's approved design as standard. Where a designer is not yet appointed we can coordinate the electrical design through our partners, but the responsibility split is always written into the contract before mobilisation.
03Do you support witness testing with the grid operator?+
Yes. We prepare the documentation pack, attend the witness tests and close out any observations. That is part of the package rather than a separate service.
